Manufacturer Website Design: What Buyers Look For

Manufacturer website design is judged by someone who already has a drawing. They open the site to disqualify you, quickly, and they are right to. If the page cannot show what you make, what you will not make, and how to send the file, the photography does not get a vote.

This is a buyer’s path, not a feature list for a theme. The same path shows up in website design for construction company projects, with different proof objects. A mill certificate on one site, a project photograph with a date on the other. The buyer is still trying to answer the same three questions. Can you do this. Have you done it. Who answers the message.

The first click is a part, not a brand film

Procurement rarely starts on the homepage. It starts on a product URL, a category URL, or a PDF that should have been a page. Meet them there. The product name in the first line. The material or the process in the next. A way to attach a drawing before any paragraph about vision.

Homepage films of the gate and the lobby are optional. They are not evidence. A buyer cannot check a tolerance against a drone shot. If you spend the first screen on the shot, you have asked them to trust you before you have shown the work. Some will. The careful ones will leave, and the careful ones are the ones with the drawing.

Write the boundary of the offer in plain language. Minimum order if you have one. Processes you run in house. Processes you subcontract. Regions you ship. A buyer would rather read a limit than discover it after two weeks of samples. A limit is a sign the page was written by someone who has shipped the thing.

Capacity and lead time need a home

These two facts decide more enquiries than a slogan does, and they are often missing. Not because the factory lacks them. Because the page template had no slot for them, so they stayed in a sales engineer’s inbox.

Give them a slot on the category page and on the product page. A range is allowed. “First article in three to five weeks, repeat orders shorter, subject to the drawing” tells the buyer whether to keep you on the list. “World-class lead times” tells them nothing, and it makes the careful reader trust the rest of the page less.

Don’t invent a precise number for the mockup. If sales cannot stand behind a range, the page should say that quotes are issued against the drawing, and the form should accept the drawing. That is an honest design. A fake “48-hour shipping” line is not a design improvement. It is a future complaint.

Name the unit of capacity in the buyer’s unit. Machines, tonnes a month, project size, crew size. Pick the one your buyers already ask for on the phone. Then publish that one. A second unit can wait. Two vague units are worse than one concrete unit.

Construction buyers look for different proof, same decision

Website design for construction company work fails in a familiar way. The site shows a logo wall and a stock photograph of a skyline. The buyer wanted the project type, the role you actually held, the year, and the location at a level they can check. Main contractor, package contractor, supplier of a system. Those are different companies. The page should not make the reader guess which one you are.

A project entry that can be checked has four fields. What was built. What you did on it. When. Where, specific enough to be real and not so specific that you publish a client’s private drawing. If you cannot fill the four fields, you don’t have a case study. You have a photograph. Publish the photograph in a gallery if you like. Don’t label it a case.

Manufacturer pages can steal this discipline. A job you are allowed to name, with the process you ran and the year, is stronger than forty anonymous “solutions” tiles. If the client will not let you name them, say so, and publish the process without the trademark. Anonymous and detailed beats named and empty.

Pages that should not be generated

Some briefs ask for a page per city, a page per alloy synonym, or a page per county the sales team would like to rank in. The pages share a template and swap the place name. Google’s spam policies call a close cousin of this doorway abuse: multiple pages aimed at regions or cities that funnel people to one destination, and large sets of pages created to rank rather than to help. The document is Google’s spam policies. The doorway section and the scaled-content section were both on that page when it was checked on 22 September 2026.

A real branch with a real address, real hours, and a person who answers can justify a location page. A list of 80 cities with the same 90 words and a swapped noun cannot. Manufacturer website design that starts by cloning city pages is making a clean-up project, not a catalogue.

The same caution applies to AI drafts of a hundred product pages that nobody on the floor has read. Scaled content abuse, in Google’s wording, includes using generative tools to produce many pages without value for the user. A product page a sales engineer has checked is a different object from a page a model guessed. Budget the checking. If you cannot check them, don’t publish them.

Search work still matters. It belongs on pages that answer a real query with first-hand detail. That is the work described under technical and multilingual SEO. It is not a licence to stamp out doorway URLs.

Photographs are evidence or they are wallpaper

A photograph of the actual machine, with the actual people who run it, dated in the file name or the caption, is evidence. A rented photograph of hands holding a tablet in a bright warehouse is wallpaper. Buyers in this trade have seen the wallpaper. They are not insulted. They are bored, and they leave.

Show the ugly useful things. The incoming inspection bench. The packing line. The reject bin, if you are brave enough, because a reject bin implies you have a standard. A caption should say what the reader is looking at. “Our commitment to quality” under a blurred press is a caption that refuses to commit to anything.

Drawings and certificates need the same honesty. Publish a certificate you hold, with the year visible. Don’t publish a badge you borrowed from a theme demo. If a buyer asks for a document you don’t hold, the page should make it easy to say so. Silence reads as a claim.

Two readers, and they do not want the same PDF

An engineer and a purchaser can arrive on the same URL. The engineer wants the process window, the material, the tolerance in text. The purchaser wants lead time, the commercial limit, and a destination for the drawing. Manufacturer website design that only serves one of them produces a polite site and a confused internal forward. “Can you look at this link” becomes a weekly tax on the engineer, because the page didn’t hold the fact.

You don’t need two websites. You need both facts on the one URL, in an order a tired person can scan. Spec first. Commercial limit under it. File upload after both. A PDF of the whole catalogue can exist for the purchaser who wants to forward a file internally. It should not be the only place the tolerance lives. PDFs are where specifications go to become invisible to search and awkward on a phone.

If the honest answer is “we quote from the drawing, and the public page cannot hold a tolerance”, say that in the first screen. Then make the upload obvious. Hiding the limit inside a 40-page PDF is not a more professional version of the same truth. It is a slower one.

The form should accept the object they already have

The object is usually a drawing, a STEP file, or a photograph of a failed part. The form has to take that file, or it has to state a size cap in megabytes and offer a second path when the file is larger. A form that silently refuses a 20 MB drawing is a form that loses the enquiry and shows the buyer nothing. Say the cap. Give the other path.

Ask for the quantity and the destination country in the same form. Those two change the answer more than a dropdown of industries does. Leave the industry dropdown out. You already know they found a manufacturer page.

Website design for construction company enquiries often arrives as a bill of quantities or a drawing set, not as a one-line message. Same rule. Accept the file, or say how else to send it. A contact form with a 200-character box and no attachment is a brochure form. It is the wrong tool for this buyer.

What to hand a studio before they draw anything

A usable brief for manufacturer website design is short. The products you will actually sell through the site, not the full historical range. The four fields you can fill on a project or a job. The enquiry destination, including who is away on Fridays. The languages a real person on your side can answer in. The documents you are willing to show in public.

Hand over one real product, fully, before you approve a visual system. Template the second product from the first. A visual system designed around dummy latin will not have a slot for lead time, and you will discover that after the comps have been signed.

Tianwen Network was founded in 2017 and maintains 30–40 export sites, a share of them for factories and similar B2B sellers. We will not invent a client growth rate for this page. We also will not pretend a city-page generator is a catalogue. The build, once the brief has those slots, is WordPress development against a URL list. The people are named on who operates Tianwen Network.

If you are briefing website design for construction company work, bring one project you can document with the four fields, not twelve you can only illustrate. The page will be shorter. It will also be a page a buyer can finish.

Want a second pair of eyes on a current site before you redesign it? Send one product URL or one project URL through the contact page. The useful reply is which of the three questions the page fails to answer. Can you do this. Have you done it. Who answers the message.

Questions buyers ask of the site

What does a buyer with a drawing look for first?

What you make, what you will not make, and how to send the file. A film of the lobby does not answer a tolerance.

Are city pages a sound way to grow a manufacturer site?

A real branch with an address and a person can justify a page. A template that swaps city names matches the doorway pattern in Google’s spam policies. Don’t publish a set nobody can check.

What belongs on a construction project entry?

What was built, what your company did, when, and where, at a level a buyer can check. A photograph without those four fields is a photograph, not a case study. The same rule is what website design for construction company pages usually miss.

Should specifications live only in a PDF?

Put the tolerance in text on the URL. A PDF can exist for someone who wants to forward a file. It should not be the only copy of the spec.
